Ganton School’s Chop & Change initiative serves up a lunch to remember!

Collaborating with The Deep to deliver a standout lunch event for the Hull Business Women’s Breakfast Club.

Recently, 9 talented pupils from Ganton School had the exciting opportunity to collaborate with The Deep to deliver a standout lunch event for the Hull Business Women’s Breakfast Club.

As part of the school's Chop & Change initiative, students took the lead from start to finish: designing a mouth-watering menu, preparing and cooking each dish and confidently serving a three-course meal to 27 delighted members and guests.

The event was more than just a culinary triumph; it was a chance to shine a spotlight on the Chop & Change programme and showcase the incredible capabilities of the students involved. Attendees left not only well-fed but truly inspired by the professionalism and passion on display.

Clare Atkinson, Chair of The Hull Business Women’s Breakfast Club, shared her experience: "The Hull Business Women’s Breakfast Club were absolutely honoured to be part of the incredible Biz Week lunch event delivered at The Deep in collaboration with Ganton School and their inspiring 'Chop & Change' initiative. The students prepared and served a delicious three-course meal with confidence, care and professionalism. The quality of the food was outstanding, but even more impressive was the passion, pride, and capability each student demonstrated throughout the event. It was a powerful reminder that with the right support and opportunities, these young people have so much to offer — particularly to the hospitality industry, where their warmth and attention to detail would be a true asset. This initiative not only showcased their talents but opened our eyes to how we, as employers and community members, can play a more active role in supporting them into meaningful, fulfilling work. A huge thank you to the team at Ganton School — we left full of food and full of admiration."

Jay, a pupil at Ganton School, said: "I had a brilliant time with Chop & Change. It really helps me feel confident about doing work experience next year. I loved cooking the food in a proper kitchen with professional Chefs. I really enjoyed meeting new people and answering interview type questions for the guests who supported us."

Alec Young, Headteacher of Ganton School, shared his thanks: "It is always humbling to see good collaboration in action. Occasions where our pupils can showcase their talent whilst embedding the knowledge they develop in school are integral to ensuring our wonderful learners develop resilience and independence. I am thankful to all for their efforts."

We’re incredibly proud of the students’ achievements and grateful to everyone who helped make the event such a memorable occasion, with special thanks to the staff at The Deep and Hull Business Women’s Breakfast Club. Pictures from the event can be seen using the link below.
