Top-tier recognition for sporting excellence and inclusivity!

Cambridge Park Academy is proud to announce that it has been awarded the School Games Gold Mark Award. The award is a prestigious, government-led accolade that recognises schools demonstrating outstanding commitment to physical activity and competitive sport.

This award is a testament to Cambridge Park Academy’s unwavering dedication to making sport and physical activity a central part of school life. By fostering both inclusive and competitive opportunities, Cambridge Park Academy ensures that all students have the chance to enjoy, participate in, and learn through sport, developing both their physical skills and personal best.

Achieving Gold status means Cambridge Park Academy has gone above and beyond to enhance sporting provision while championing equal access for all students. Recent highlights include hosting inclusive School Games events in boccia and new age kurling, organising unified football and basketball tournaments in partnership with the Special Olympics, launching extra-curricular clubs in football and cricket and achieving 2nd place at the North of England Table Cricket Finals.

Daniel, a pupil at Cambridge Park Academy said: "I'm really happy our school got the Gold Award! We do loads of fun sports and everyone gets a turn. I love being part of a team and trying my best!"

Headteacher, Steve Kernan, shared his pride in the award: “At Cambridge Park Academy, our learners are at the heart of everything we do; our goal is to provide a fun, engaging, caring and supportive environment. I’m thrilled the School Games has recognised the tireless work our staff and students put into promoting sport and inclusivity. I would like to take this opportunity to give a special mention to Kevan Leech, our PE Teacher, who has taken the lead on this initiative. For us, sport is not just an activity, but a foundation for building confidence, community and character; from participating in local competitions to volunteering and officiating, our students embody what it means to lead and serve through sport.”

Rachel Wilkes, CEO of Humber Education Trust, also praised the collective efforts behind the achievement: “Cambridge Park Academy’s vision is to create a journey where every student can thrive, belong and succeed as their unique selves. The School Games Gold Mark is more than an award; it’s a reflection of the Academy’s ethos where every child is encouraged to flourish through physical activity, competition and inclusive sporting opportunities. This deserved recognition shines a spotlight on the dedication shown by the school’s leadership, staff, students, parents and community.”
