SCERTS Success!

Thank you to everyone who attended the SCERTS® Model Day 1 Conference in Hull.

It was a pleasure to welcome Emily Rubin, who travelled all the way from the USA to deliver this fantastic training. We were thrilled to host over 130 delegates from eight different Local Authority areas, including colleagues who joined us from London.

The day focused on SCERTS® (Social Communication, Emotional Regulation, Transactional Support), a developmental, relationship-based approach designed to support autistic learners and those with diverse social emotional learning profiles.

The event was opened by Rachel Wilkes, CEO, who set the tone for a day centred on learning, reflection and collaboration. We were honoured to have Emily Rubin, co-author of the SCERTS® Model and a speech-language pathologist, lead the sessions. Emily is passionate about the links between social emotional engagement, language, learning and well-being. Emily said: “I was delighted to deliver SCERTS® training in Hull and receive such a warm welcome. The questions, reflections and conversations showed just how deeply this community cares about supporting social emotional engagement for all learners. I have great confidence that these practices will continue to make a meaningful difference for children, families and educators across the region.”

Delegates were highly engaged throughout, taking part enthusiastically in discussions and Padlet polls. The opportunities for networking were also well-received, with many attendees connecting and sharing ideas. We were delighted with the positive feedback, including one delegate who enthusiastically commented, “Emily is just brilliant! I have written down so many things to have a try at.”

To close the day, Berni Moorcroft offered a heartfelt thank you to Emily for travelling so far to deliver such an impactful conference. We also extended our gratitude to the staff and helpers who ensured everything ran smoothly, as well as the brilliant team at MKM Stadium, whose support contributed to the success of the event.
