Curriculum That Counts: Day 2 of Our SEND Conference

Another week – another inspiring conference!

In partnership with Hull City Council, we were thrilled to welcome over 50 delegates to the re-run of Day 2 of our SEND Conference on Friday 6 February. The day focused on shaping meaningful and impactful curriculum experiences for pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties. With this event, we have now delivered our Day 2 training to over 160 delegates – just wow!

The day began with a warm welcome from our CEO, Rachel Wilkes, and our Strategic Special School Improvement Lead, Berni Moorcroft. Berni set the tone by revisiting the Fundamentals of Learning and the Curriculum Stages for English and Maths, providing a strong and purposeful foundation for the sessions ahead.

Our workshops formed the heart of the day, led by our incredibly skilled team — Andrea Powell, Sarah Grindley, Berni Moorcroft and Helen Robinson. From developing interaction and engagement, to nurturing early literacy, numeracy, attention and engagement skills, each workshop was packed with practical strategies, live modelling and even a few sing songs along the way! A huge thank you to our team for delivering such visual, insightful and impactful sessions.

Delegates rotated through every workshop, taking part in hands-on activities and lively discussions, many of which are captured in our video below. The atmosphere buzzed with energy, collaboration and the sharing of best practice from start to finish.

We were delighted with the fantastic feedback, including one enthusiastic delegate who shared: “Thank you for a really useful and practical course - these are my favourite kind!”

A big thank you to Hull City Council for subsidising the venue and refreshments, and to our brilliant staff and helpers who kept everything running smoothly. Special thanks also go to the Tigers Events at MKM Stadium for their outstanding hospitality.

Thank you to everyone who made this day so memorable. Together, we’re making a real difference.

Where everybody counts, every moment matters.
