May Day Celebrations

A May Day to remember!
Highlands Primary and Maybury Primary had a fabulous morning celebrating May Day on 1st May. The children came together as part of Choral Hull, joining over 100 schoolchildren for an unforgettable performance at the top of Hull Minster – an experience they will never forget!
The children bravely climbed over 170 steps to reach the top of the tower, where they performed from the summit itself. With bright sunshine, blue skies and breathtaking views across the city, the River Humber and far beyond, the setting could not have been more perfect. Their singing was simply beautiful, creating a magical moment that carried across the surrounding area and delighted everyone who watched and listened.
The tradition of welcoming May Morning with a choir singing from the top of a tower has taken place at Magdalen College in Oxford for centuries. In Hull, this special event is now in its third year and it is wonderful to see our children playing such an important role in establishing and continuing this tradition in the city.
Following the performance, celebrations continued in Trinity Square with a traditional village green fête. The children enjoyed a range of fun events, games and activities, were entertained by Lindy Hop dancers and even took part in Maypole dancing themselves. As the photos below show, a fantastic time was had by all and it was lovely to see children from both schools coming together to celebrate such a joyful occasion.
The event was so special that BBC Humberside shared a wonderful video capturing the moment which you can watch by clicking here: Facebook video
Well done to all the children and staff involved for making this such a memorable and magical May Day celebration!
