St Nicholas Primary School Launches WOW Walk to School Initiative

We look forward to seeing the positive impact this programme will have on the school community!
St Nicholas Primary School, proud to be part of Humber Education Trust, is excited to announce the launch of the WOW Walk to School programme, a pupil-led initiative designed to encourage children and their families to choose active travel for their daily school journeys. Developed by Living Streets, this programme supports schools to overcome barriers to walking and promotes healthier, greener travel choices.
As part of the initiative, pupils record their journeys each day using the WOW Travel Tracker and earn badges for making active choices such as walking, cycling or scooting. This fun and interactive approach helps build lifelong healthy habits while reducing congestion and pollution around the school.
To mark the occasion, St Nicholas Primary School were delighted to welcome Living Streets and Councillor Mark Ieronimo, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transport and Infrastructure, to celebrate this exciting step forward. The launch event began with a whole-school assembly led by Living Streets and following the assembly, WOW Ambassador training was delivered to the School Councillors, who are now ready to champion the programme across the school community. The timing of the launch couldn’t have been better as snow began to fall, walking became the safest and most enjoyable way to get to school!
Head of School, Sarah Leaf expressed her delight in being part of the initiative: "At St Nicholas Primary School we promote a thoughtful attitude towards the immediate and wider environment and the WOW initiative is a fantastic way to encourage active travel and make a positive impact on our pupils’ health and the environment. We are thrilled to be part of the WOW Walk to School programme!"
Eloisa, a pupil at the school added: “Walking to school is so much fun and being able to earn badges and helping the planet is an added bonus. We are also getting ourselves fit and healthy.”
