Our CEO Awarded OBE in New Year’s Honours List!

A very well-deserved achievement!

We are proud to announce that our Chief Executive Officer, Rachel Wilkes, has been awarded the title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the New Year’s Honours List, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to education.

Rachel has served as CEO of Humber Education Trust for the past eight years, during which time the trust has grown into a thriving family of 17 good and outstanding primary and special schools across Hull and North East Lincolnshire. Under her visionary leadership, Humber Education Trust has become a model of excellence in the sector, with pupil achievement and attendance consistently exceeding local and national benchmarks.

In addition to her role as CEO, Rachel is a National Leader of Education, sharing her expertise and determination to improve outcomes for children and young people on a national scale. Her influence extends beyond Humber Education Trust and the local region, as she actively encourages staff to collaborate widely, share best practice and contribute to the greater good of the education sector. Prior to becoming CEO, Rachel led an inner-city Hull primary school from good to outstanding in 2016.

Rachel’s advocacy for public benefit and civic duty is evident in her tireless efforts to ensure every child and young person has the opportunity to succeed. This prestigious honour reflects her unwavering dedication, hard work and passionate commitment to improving the lives of children and young people.

In accepting the award, Rachel said: This honour is a testament to the power of teamwork and the shared commitment of those in education to improving the lives and life chances of children and young people. I am thankful to work with fantastic colleagues in Humber Education Trust and across the wider education sector to achieve more together than we could alone. It is a privilege and pleasure to lead Humber Education Trust and work with talented and dedicated staff for the benefit of all. I am extremely grateful and surprised by this honour and have enjoyed sharing the news with colleagues, friends and family who have given me so much support.”

Chair of Trustees, Gavin Barley, added: “Congratulations to Rachel on this well-earned award, which recognises her exceptional commitment, leadership and positive influence in education and on the lives of so many children, staff and families. It is wonderful to see Rachel’s hard work and achievements acknowledged in this way. Rachel exemplifies humility, showing that everyday individuals can make an extraordinary difference."
