Bursar Primary Academy Unveils Newly Refurbished ‘Bursar Den’ Following Major Remodelling Project

An exciting development!
Bursar Primary Academy has completed a significant remodelling project to create a bespoke, personalised learning environment for its existing cohorts. The transformation, which began in January 2026, was successfully finished over the February half-term break. The project was led and overseen by our talented Head of Estates Steve McCaffer and expertly delivered by Markham Wallis.
The refurbished space replaces a largely unused part of the school; this area has now been completely redesigned and modernised, forming a purpose-built learning space tailored to the needs of pupils requiring additional support.
At the heart of the project is a fully refurbished main classroom, which now features new double-glazed windows, an external entrance providing direct access to the group room and updated suspended ceilings and wall finishes. The room has been fitted with new floor coverings, a small kitchenette and a wet area separated by a low-level wall with glazed vision panels to support both safety and supervision. To enhance learning and comfort, the space now benefits from dimmable LED lighting, upgraded power and data provision, a new heating system and modern interactive whiteboards.
As part of the remodelling, the existing group room has been modified to include a new doorway that links directly into the classroom, creating a more flexible and accessible layout. Additionally, the former toilet area has been extended and improved to incorporate a shower facility, supporting pupils with more complex personal care needs.
Headteacher Kate Finney welcomed the completion of the project, saying:
“This refurbishment represents far more than a building upgrade, it’s an investment in our children. The remodelled learning space provides a calm, purposeful and nurturing environment where every pupil can feel supported and thrive. We are incredibly proud of the space and excited to see the positive impact it will have on our school community.”
The project was funded through the School Conditions Allocation (SCA), enabling improvements that enhance both suitability and sufficiency for the school’s SEND provision.
With the new space now open, Bursar Primary Academy continues to promote an inclusive, supportive and high-quality learning environment for all pupils, providing staff with the tools and setting they need to deliver exceptional tailored support.
